Fasting & Prayer
January 4th at 7 PM – January 24th at 7 PM
Body of Christ Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)
Why It Matters
Fasting is more than just giving things up—it’s about drawing closer to God with focus and intention. Starting on January 4, we set the tone for the new year by seeking God first, just as Daniel did with his 21-day fast. This time helps us refocus, renew our spirit, and align with God’s vision. These 21 days are just the beginning of what God wants to do in us this year.
During this time of fasting, we want to be steadfast in the Scriptures and spending time in prayer.
Purpose of the Fast
We are entering this time of fasting and prayer to:
-
Seek God’s wisdom for personal spiritual growth
-
Develop a Kingdom of God mindset
-
Shed sin and spiritual weight that holds us back
-
Walk in intentional intimacy with God
-
Grow a church of mature believers who walk in obedience and share their faith
-
Align ourselves with God’s vision for Body of Christ Christian Church (DOC)
Pray that God will use you to help win at least five souls to Christ this year.

Adult Guidelines
During this fast, we encourage adults to eat vegetables, fruits, unsweetened breads, and cereals with no added sugar. Please refrain from meats, seafood, sweets, soft drinks, and sweet tea. Drink water and natural fruit juices or smoothies without added sugar.
As part of the fast, limit media intake by avoiding TV shows, movies, and channels that contain sensual or suggestive content. Start and end each day with prayer—morning prayer when you wake up, and evening prayer before bed. We also encourage everyone to stay connected by attending Discipleship Class and Bible Study each week.

Children’s Guidelines
Children may participate in a 12-hour fast from 6 AM to 6 PM. During this time, they should avoid soft drinks and sweets.
Parents may also guide them to refrain from eating meat during either the day or night. After 6 PM, TV time should be limited to Spirit-filled or school-related content.
For those doing a 24-hour fast, children are asked to refrain from violent video games and suggestive secular music.

Prayer & Scripture
We will be reading one Psalm each day from Psalm 130 through Psalm 150.
You are encouraged to read beyond the assigned scriptures as the Holy Spirit leads you, especially during the times you would normally spend watching TV, scrolling social media, or reading other books.
Stay committed to this spiritual journey.
May gods presence be with you all the way. This is a time to be fully present with God; praying, listening, and growing. Let’s seek Him together with open hearts and renewed spirits.
