Our History

Body Of Christ Christian Church - Disciples of Christ was founded in High Point, N. C.

In 1999, then Associate Pastor Michael J. Cotton of Mt. Pleasant Christian Church felt the call of God to revive the ministry of Heart of the Triad Christian Church in High Point, N.C. With assistance of the NC Christian Church Regional Office, some of the former members of Heart of the Triad were contacted and met with Pastor Cotton at John Wesley College. Out of this group, two members, Barbara Watkins and Kendra Watkins expressed interest in continuing the church.

.

On August 1, 1999, Pastor Cotton along with his wife Nola Cotton, the Watkins family and eight support members from Mt. Pleasant and invited High Point residents held their first service as High Point Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) (HPCC). The service was held in the Radisson Hotel on Main Street. HPCC remained at the Radisson until March 2001, when the church moved to 830 West Green Drive.

In March of 2003, the church changed its name to Body of Christ Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). During the summer of 2011, God blessed Body of Christ to purchase the church property at 425 Nathan Hunt Drive in High Point. The church held its first service at the new location on Sunday, August 21, 2011.

The needs of 21st-century communities seem to be growing by the day. Our mission is to Win the Lost to Christ, Equip Believers, Perform Ministry and Edify the Body of Christ. As members, we endeavor to equip men and women to understand and apply the Word of God to their everyday lives and to walk strong in the power of God as our lives reflect the presence of Christ.

The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), while founded on the American soil in the early 1800s, is uniquely equipped to live up to its identity that it is a 'movement for wholeness in a fragmented world." The denomination was born in the 1800s, and continues to be influenced by its founding ideals of our unity of Christ with openness and diversity in practice and belief. We believe the first and foremost important aspect of your life is having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Jesus loved us so much that He died on the Cross for our sins. The Bible says that if we believe on Jesus as the Lord of our lives and that God raised Him from the grave, we are forgiven of our sins and have eternal life. If you have accepted Jesus as Savior, GREAT!!! If not, we invite you to accept Him today. To learn more about the Disciples of Christ, please visit www.disciples.org.

WHAT WE BELIEVE:

What we believe about God:

He is Creator of all things

He is Lord over all

He is the source of all blessings

What we believe about Jesus Christ:

He is God, a full person in the triune Godhead

He is the Son of God

He was born of the Virgin Mary

He was crucified for our sins

He was raised from the grave for our redemption

He is Lord and Savior of all who trust in Him

He will return

What we believe about Salvation:

No man can earn salvation by works

One must rely on the Jesus’ redemptive work on the Cross

One must repent of sin

One must believe that Jesus died for their sin

One must receive and confess Christ as Lord

What we believe about the Bible:

It is the inerrant Word of God
